Coaching Q&A

We’ve brought together some of the top coaches in the UK in a collaborative approach to help answer your questions surrounding current training protocols, dealing with a shortened season and how to keep sharp when training facilities are limited.

Coach line up includes;

Alan Ward

Alan has a Masters Degree in Coaching Science and is a BTF Level 3 Qualified Coach, who also holds an ASA L2 Teaching Qualification.

Coaching online athletes with Tri Training Harder since 2014 Alan has worked with a wide spectrum of athletes from beginner, to youth and junior elite athletes through to Ironman Kona Finishers.

Prior to this Alan has coached within a club setting since 2007 predominantly taking swimming sessions for the clubs he has coached within. Taking many athletes from the very basics of front crawl up to competing confidently at a variety of distances in open water. Alan believes in having a flexible approach to working with athletes in order to be able to respond to the individuals needs and responsiveness to different approaches to training.

Simon Ward

Simon is the founder and co-owner of TheTriathlonCoach.com (with Jack Maitland)

He began the tri-coaching journey back in 1995 when personal training clients asked him to help them complete their first triathlon. At the time there were very few triathlon coaches and no formal coach education programme in the UK. As soon as the then BTA offered the L2 award (and subsequently L3) Simon applied, studied and qualified as one of the UK’s first L3 triathlon coaches.

Since that time he has gone on to become the leading tutor for British Triathlon, writing and delivering much of the current L3 course.

Lucy Hurn

Lucy is a level 3 triathlon coach, personal trainer, sports massage therapist and endurance athlete, and is passionate about helping others achieve their goals, from doing their first 5k run, up to Ironman and beyond.

She strongly believes that it's not just about your time over the finish line, but how you got there.

Robert Griffiths

Rob is a performance psychologist who works as an executive coach and facilitator for business leaders. He also works with professional and age group athletes.

Since playing professional squash in his teens and early twenty’s, Rob has been fascinated with an individual’s abilities to improve their performance, develop talent and tap into potential.
