Nutrition During COVID-19

Our Nutrition panel will explore how we can improve our fuelling habits during this time of lock-down, in order to become a better, more refined athlete when we come out the other side.

Asker Jeukendrup - Leading Exercise Physiologist and Sports Nutritionist

Following an MSc in Human Movement Sciences at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, Asker completed his PHD in 1997 exploring the “Aspects of carbohydrate and fat metabolism during exercise”. Over the years he developed experience in measuring metabolism using stable isotopic tracer techniques and mass spectrometer. His research focused on the interaction between nutrition and exercise.

He started as a lecturer at the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Birmingham University in 1998 and became a Professor in Exercise Metabolism in 2005. He was the academic Director of the Human Performance Laboratory and Director of Research for the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

 In 2011 Asker became the Global Senior Director of Exercise Physiology in PepsiCo. In this role he headed up the Gatorade Sports Science Institute based in Illinois, USA directing a global operation with labs in the USA, UK and Mexico.

 Asker is currently a visiting Professor at Loughborough University and the Director of mysportscience.


Helen Money - Nutritionist

Helen has over 10 years experience as a nutritionist and holds a BSc (Hons) in Human Nutrition from the University of Westminster and a PG cert in Applied Sports Nutrition from St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

Formerly a fund manager, she worked in the City for 16 years and knows the stresses that work can put on health. A good diet is essential to sustaining energy levels, stamina and to performing well.

She provides advice and diet plans to support clients in a range of areas including weight loss, stress, cognitive function, fatigue, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, health maintenance and sports nutrition. Helen also has experience of working with athletes competing at world championship level in a range of sports through to enthusiastic amateurs, many with podium finishes.

Helen practices from The Bosworth Clinic a leading clinic in sport rehabilitation, and is nutritionist to the Oxford University Blues sports teams as well as Tri Training Harder and TLA Fitness.

She has previously worked for the Nutrition Society and is also a consultant to Cambridge University Press working on The British Journal of Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition and the Journal of Nutritional Science.


Andrew Blow - Sports Scientist and Founder of Precision Hydration

Andy is a Sports Scientist with a degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Bath. An expert in sweat, dehydration and cramping, Andy previously worked as the Team Sports Scientist for the Benetton and Renault Formula 1 teams, and remains an adviser to the Porsche Human Performance Centre.

An elite level triathlete in his younger days, Andy has finished in the top-10 of Ironman and IM 70.3 races, as well as winning an Xterra World title.

It was Andy's own struggles with cramp and hydration that led to him specialising in electrolyte replenishment and founding Precision Hydration. 

Andy is a leading figure in the world of sports hydration and has worked alongside Dr Raj Jutley, as well as other top sports scientists, to co-author a number of studies and books.

Jay is best know for his work announcing the Australian triathlon race series and the IRONMAN UK races including Ireland, Wales and Weymouth.

Jay usually spends the summer over in the UK but this year we may have to wait a little longer before we see him we are delighted to have him in the conference.
